Energy and When the Grid Goes Down with George Santucci, Town of Boone’s Sustainability Director
Learn about the power grid, alternative systems of energy, and what to do when the grid goes down. Our region learned a hard lesson in energy connection during and post Hurricane Helene when thousands of people were left without power for days to weeks. We will discuss solutions to some of the problems we faced and how to prevent them in future events.

Wildfire Preparation with Jonathon Hartsell, Blue Ridge Resource Conservation and Development’s Executive Director
The NC Forest Service warns “It is not a matter of "if" a wildfire will occur, but "when" it will happen.” Unfortunately, with the debris and fallen trees left by Hurricane Helene, the threat of wildfire has increased. Jonathon will discuss strategies on how to prepare for wildfires and how to reduce wildfire-risk around homes and communities.
